The salary a CEO brings home is not the total package. The total compensation includes salary, bonuses, shares of the company stock, call options on the company stock, and other benefits. The scatter plot below shows the salary compared to the total compensation for 85 CEO’s at Canadian mining companies, ranging in asset size of less than CAD5,000,000 to over CAD1,000,000,000, as defined by SEDAR.
CEO’s working at the largest mining companies appear to get the most boost in earnings from the benefits packages. The graph below shows the same graph with the largest mining companies removed, to get a clearer picture of what is happening to the salaries of CEO’s in Junior or Mid-tier organizations. Sixty-three CEO’s are represented in the graph below.
